This past week...

In Seattle this time of year, it seems all we get is rain.  So I've amassed a large collection of rainboots.  These are my most recent acquisition from Santa this Christmas.

Monday

I love them.  In fact, I own 2 other colors in the leather version...

A dog and red lipstick; two of the best accessories a girl can own.

Tuesday

Flaunted the amazingly handmade nautical necklace

I love how it turned out

Wednesday

Not sure what happened to the colors here, but the more I messed with them, the worse they got...  A photographer, I am not.

Some of the detail on one of my favorite shirts.  I've already worn through the one I own in grey.

Thursday - One of my best friends, Liz, graced the camera with her presence.
The day's theme - Statement necklaces

Those are fantastic pearls.

And with my skirt, sitting was a bit of a process...

Safe and proper at last!

Friday!

I'm trying to fully embrace the wide leg jeans, but most of the time, feel like a Mary Tyler Moore wannabee.

My weekend involved puppies and jumping, so clothes were the typical jeans and leggings.  Not worth documenting, really.

Knotty Nautical Necklace

My friend Liz and I went to Jo-Ann Fabrics yesterday to get some rope to make the necklace I posted the other day.  After searching, we ended up finding what we wanted in the upholstry section.  We decided to go for a thinner, weightier version.  (It was also shinier!  Ooohh...)

After much struggle, I got the ends cleaned up and clasps put on.  No details; just that there was lots of Gorilla glue involved.  It would have been dangerous to have my camera around that.

The necklace was a simple series of slipknots.  So I made one...

Two...

And then you pull the last one all the way through.

Super easy!  So we decided to make one for each of us.

Look, there's even a sailboat on the end!!!

As for clothes, I wore the same outfit both days.  (Shh!!!!)  It was still clean; I swear.

Plus, I decided to add my new lipstick.  It changes a girl.  I swear, it brought the second day outfit up a notch.

Time to start the week!

This felt like a professional week...

I took advantage of this week to dress in actual work clothes, not university employee work clothes.  When mom jeans and 3d sweaters are the norm, it doesn't take much to stand out.

But this is the rest of the outfit from Tuesday.  My parents brought the fabric back from their trip to Guatemala.  After an intense de-bedbugging session, I finally got my hands on it and made a skirt to go meet the great Luly Yang in.  My favorite part is the button.  It's amazing.

Tuesday

On Wednesday, it was sunny.  As in, actual sunshine!  Like, so bright I gotta wear shades!
And the skirt is one of my own.  It's all lace and super full.

And I also loved Thursday's outfit.  Those are my favorite shoes.  At least whenever I wear them.  Can all my shoes be favorites?

Thursday

Today was less than exciting.  It was my Friday uniform of boots and skinny jeans.  I shan't bore you, but I do adore the sweater.

Friday

And now, it's the weekend.  Thank goodness!
I'm meeting with one of my darling friends tomorrow morning to hit the fabric store and make this:

The knots should be simple enough; it's more about finding the right rope.
Wish us luck!

After a relaxing day off...

I played hooky from work today.  (Don't worry, it was boss approved.) And it was delightful.  So nice.  For the first time in forever, it was sunny in Seattle and I got so much done.  Despite the cold weather, I still wore a bright, playful skirt.  Wonderful, absolutely wonderful.

My elephant necklace - J.Crew

Saturday and Sunday
My weekend was spent playing with these two
Panda and Blaze from the Humane Society

And baking this
Recipes from bakedperfection.com

So I took a few pictures of the pieces I worked in between puppy poop and flour splotches.

Monday
Mom and I had a spa party to go to so dressing up was necessary.

Post-manicure.  I decided to be wild and crazy.  You can't tell, but there are specks of glitter in that polish.

Tuesday
Free time = taking time to do my hair
I'll get a picture of my skirt, but it's brightly colored made from fabric my parents found in Guatemala.  So pretty.  And bright.  And fun!

Shopping Detox

As my most recent order from J. Crew arrived last Saturday, it hit me exactly how much of my monthly income I put towards clothing.  It's not extreme, but it could be better.
So now I've decided to spend three months with no new clothing purchases.  No new accessories, no new shoes, and no new tights.
I'm lucky enough to have a wardrobe full of clothing I love.  Clothes I love and never have time to wear.
It'll force me to be creative with the clothes I have.  And since I won't allow myself to wear anything new I make, it'll force em to take time on my sewing projects.

The rules include no new clothing purchases, no sewing new clothes to be worn within the 3 month time frame, and trying to work in all the pieces I've ignored in the past.
I will be able to alter clothing I already own and haven't worn because of its fit.

Here goes:

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday

Thursday

Also Thursday

More to come, but goodnight for now.
